I have been eyeing Bermuda ever since I found out my favorite fashionista Shiona Turini is from the gorgeous island. After seeing her review on The Coveteur of Bermuda and later seeing my fairy blog mother Natalie Joos, jaunt to Bermuda as well, I knew Bermuda was where I needed to be. I hadn’t had a beach in my life since May when I visited Miami, and was in desperate need of sun and sand. I got no sun, but certainly a lot of rain and sand. Last week Bermuda was hit by hurricane Nicole and I flew into the island exactly 6 days later. The weather was total and complete shit, but that didn’t stop me from discovering St. Georges, the old town of Bermuda and it’s colorful and charming streets. It’s true, everyone in Bermuda is beyond friendly. Every face you see greets you with a hello, a wave, or a good afternoon. People make is a priority to speak to you, even if they are driving by and you’re walking on the road. Shout out to JetBlue and their amazing 2 Day Sales, that allowed me to visit this amazing island.

Bermuda is everything I thought it would be and I’m lucky I choose to stay in St. Georges Town which is considered the Old and Historic part of Bermuda. Everything is in walking distance and within 4 hours we had walked from end to end taking in the downtown harbor scene and then up the hill and across rolling meadows and beautiful untouched land to Tobacco Bay and Fort St. Catherine beaches.  Aunt Nea’s Inn in St. George’s Town was the perfect base for discovering the island. The complimentary breakfast was delicious as well with the most savory brewed cup of coffee I’ve had in a while. It was nice to sit out on the huge porch and listen to the frogs as it lightly rained. The air is nothing short of refreshing. Trust me, Bermuda is an instagram dream. There are so many places that just look completely unreal. My favorite places were definitely the jetty at Fort St. Catherine and Tobacco Bay Beach which was just a little slice of heaven. It’s so amazing, it’s hard to believe it actually exist. Don’t come to Bermuda expecting amazing cuisine. The food is expensive and mediocre. Come to Bermuda for the delicious drinks (Swizzle or Dark & Stormy anyone), and the breathtaking beaches and of course the colorful goodness that is all of St. George’s Town. Also stop in Sweet Saak’s Bakery for some damned good cinnamon buns and cheese breads.

I never knew how close Bermuda is via flight from New York City. It’s definitely the perfect getaway and I will be returning soon. Hopefully next time, I’ll get some serious sun.
