Where to Stay in Marrakech — Riad Yasmine

IMG_0127 IMG_2158

You’ve seen it on Instagram for sure. It’s Riad Yasmine, the most perfect riad in all of Marrakech. When I say it, I immediately booked it for our trip to Morocco. It is decorated for maximum tranquility and is one of the few raids in the old town with a pool. A raid is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an inner courtyard. I didn’t want to stay in a large hotel. I always choose to stay where the culture is when I go on vacations. I feel like I get a better experience when I do and that I learn a lot more as well. Riad Yasmine is in the center of it all. A stones throw from the Souks and a 10 minute walk to Ben Youssef Madrasa. It’s also a quick 10 minute walk through the busy center and to a favorite eatery, Dar Mama, where you can get a meal for two for less than 200 Moroccan Dirhams (or $20).

The colors are bright yet muted just enough to tame your eye. The tile work is intricate and delicate. The way the light filters into your room in the mornings with the birds chirping in the trees and the soft wind dancing in, is the perfect way to awake each morning. Everything we needed was met almost instantaneously. Upon arrival we were ushered in graciously, given a tour and served delicious mint tea with almond cookies while being shown the map of the medina and the sights. We even had some of our clothing ironed or steamed within 10 minutes of dropping them off. We never had to ask about our room being cleaned as it was done so quickly and quietly we never had the chance. Freshly laundered towels replaced used ones magically. I have to mention that Riad Yasmine smells absolutely divine and I’m afraid to wash the clothes I took for fear of losing that amazing scent. One of my favorite areas of Riad Yasmine is the rooftop patio. It was the perfect oasis of calm during my stay and I enjoyed a simple yet fulfilling breakfast every morning in the sunlight on the patio. Fresh fruit, yogurts, freshly squeezed juice, an assortment of breads and crepes, eggs and of course hot and spicy mint tea became the breakfast norm. There was a new surprise to discover each morning at breakfast.

In addition to the rooftop patio, I indulged more than once in the coolness of the pool. After a long day and night in the desert the pool was a welcomed wetness. I enjoyed meeting the few other guest staying at the riad while we all sat around the pool relaxing. We also ate a delicious authentic moroccan meal of chicken tangine and rice on our first night at Riad Yasmine. Owners Alice & Gaby have done a wonderful job with the riad and everyone who works there who I came in contact with was gracious, helpful and extremely kind. I can’t wait to return to the medina! I should also mention that Riad Yasmine is budget friendly with 5 star quality. To learn more about Riad Yasmine and to book your stay give them a visit here.
